My father liked the article and believed a lot of what they were saying is true. If you want to get ahead in life you can't please everybody and you can't change everything. People that really want something go out and make it happen and believe in themselves which is most important.

    1. I couldn't agree more with the comment on believing in oneself to make things happen and be successful in your endeavors. While you can't please everyone and change everything, what do you think about the people you should try to please, who are they? What about the things you can change, what are those things to you?

My mother said "To be honest they do, do a lot of that. " She said its true, and please who you can please and the ones you cant? Oh well? She asked me if i pleased everyone, i said no. She said people have to be strong because in order to grow and move on with life you need to be strong.

    1. What are the ways you think you are strong? How do you differentiate between who you should please and who you shouldn't worry about? What advice would you give for that?

My mom said that if you look at all the successful people in the world one common trait that they have is the willing to put themselves out there and take chances. Progress is made by taking controlled risks.

    1. We have a saying in USMC philosophy: Risk versus Gain. We also differentiate between as your mom put it "a calculated risk" versus a gamble (just winging it). The concept of taking a (calculated) risk to gain some accomplishment typically means leaving your comfort zone and "putting it out there". What are some ways you do that or could do that?

My dad said that this article says the truth, he believes in those qualities that a mentally tough person has. He says that those mentally though qualities can also become "physically" though qualities. He agrees with the article and believes following those guidelines will make you a better person

I discussed this article with my father. He believes what the article, "Five Things That Mentally Tough People Do Not Do" is completely accurate. Without mental toughness man cannot overcome any task or difficulty that is given to him. Mental toughness can range from something very simple to something very complex. Muhammad Ali's quote is what every athlete or un-athletic person should have embedded in there brain.

    1. In reference to Muhammad Ali's quote about the benefit of endured pain and sacrifice through training, why don't student's think of studying and doing homework in that same light to academic success = future success? What do you think should be done to help them make that connection.

My mom says she likes what the article has to say. She agrees with it and further continues to explain how the article focuses mostly on how it applies to adults and CEOs but can easily be applied and understood by young people aswell... or atleast it should be.
i personally disagree. but that doesnt matter.

My mother agreed completely with the author of this article. She felt hat in order to compete with many people in todays world you have to have and maintain that mental toughness in order to be someone that you are happy with yourself. She also talked about how it is difficult to maintain this mental toughness for many people and when she was younger mental toughness was not something she was good with instead it was something that held her back from a lot of things in life. She also told me that I should strive to maintain a mental toughness and if I do it will lead my onto a successful and better future.

    1. Great comments from your Mom especially that "metal toughness" doesn't just happen, but may take a while to develop in a person. That is exactly why I am introducing this to you now so you can realize the components and traits of mental toughness. Understanding those allows you to assess yourself on how you can develop that ability in yourself in the future.

My father thought this was a good article and he said it reminded him of himself a lot. He also thought everyone should be informed of and exhibit these five characteristics because they are important in life. I believe that this article is very informative and an be very helpful to people who don't know how to be mentally strong and manage things in their life.

    1. Amahd, do you think you are mentally strong? If not or If so, why? When I see how you perform in the classroom and how academically reliable you are and the disciplined approach you take to learning, it is not a surprise that your father is mentally tough. Great example of parents nurturing this children and developing character.

My father agreed with this article, he really liked it. One of the things he told me he really liked was the thing that said that they don't feel sorry for them selfs, he said he thought that one was the most important.

    1. I agree because feeling sorry for yourself can really handicap a person and let them self-rationalize why they didn't accomplish something. It gives a person that bad luck, fate, or this "unfair world" is the reason they didn't accomplish something, instead of a lack of focus, effort, or tenacity on their part.

My grandmother really thought this article was very true. She said if you have great mental toughness you can overcome negative thoughts. You must always keep your mind focused on the things you want to accomplish and not let negative people affect you

    1. The wisdom of Grandmother's is a force to be reckoned with! Phenomenal point about overcoming negative thoughts or people by remaining positively mentally focused on your goal. You can't let other's negativity get you off of your positive path or get you off YOUR game.

My mom enjoyed the article and said that she always tells me over and over again that mental toughness can get you through a lot. you can't let little things get to you and the same parent lecture I normally get.. ya know. She said that she believes that mental toughness just doesn't come naturally you must first go through an experience that knocks you down and when you realize you can't give up and get back up you have gained the "mental toughness" and that me and her both have gone through so much that we both are mentally tough. she also liked the first one in the article "don't feel sorry for yourself" because she always tells me that and its true, you can't feel bad for yourself when 99.9% of the time its your fault you're even in that position.

Me and my grandma believe having these traits will lead you to be successful. If you possess these traits whatever you pursue you can attain. The trait that stuck out most to us was don't play small. I could settle for going to a mediocre college and a mediocre job. Instead I push myself to work hard now so one day I can attend a great school and enter into the Marines as an officer which are two endeavors that require great mental toughness. Following these traits will put anyone on a path to success.

My mother and I reviewed these traits and discussed them. We found the trait about not worrying about things you can control to be the most important. Most people arn't trying to sell an idea in a board room like the author expects us to be working on. Not worrying about things we can't control is something you can exercise everyday. Spaggetti for lunch in the cafeteria isnt something you can change, so you embrace the spagetti and become it. My mother really enjoyed this article, and felt as if it was a good tool to consider in her daily life.
