    1. Tyron you are truly fortunate to have a strong role model in your life. While you will be your own person, there are many things you will do as a future role model for your children similar do what your Dad has done for you. I can see his influence in you, and he should be very proud. Keep pushing yourself to continually improve, especially in school. I am proud of you as well, seeing you develop into a strong young man.

The most influential and person that changed my life was my great grandfather

1)he was strong, fit, and healthy until the day he died
2)he was dirt poor when he was growing up and became very successful in making a good life for his family with alot of hard work
3)he always had manners, treated everyone with respect, and taught me the same thing

    1. Devin, your speech was impressive and heartfelt, I could feel his strength and influence in your words. You are so lucky to have had him in your life, and for him to have made that lasting impact on you. Now you have to do your part, life up to the example he set. You already are moving in that direction and you know what you need to do, so like the Nike commercial..."Just Do It!" You have grown so much and are already making progress, but keep pushing yourself and like your Grandfather, don't be satisfied with anything other than your best effort in everything you do!! Keep up the good work!

    1. Patrick, your Mom seems like a pretty amazing woman and for that you are truly fortunate. As we often say, the complete person always seeks balance in mind, body, and spirit. Clearly your Mom has set this type of example for you and you feel for her deeply. I always see you seeking self-improvement and I think your Mom's perseverance has taught you that - keep up the good work. You often take a very serious and stern approach to things which is fine, but seek some balance in your outlook by looking for the good in others and to "stop and smell the roses" and enjoy the things around you. It is rewarding as a teaching to see a student grow like you are, keep it up!

My brothers are the most influential people in my life.

    -Taught me to be myself.
-Influence the way i dress and music i listen to.
-David taught me how to tie my shoes.

    1. Nicole, you definitely seem to love and appreciate your brothers which is great. It is great that the adults in your life have created and maintained an environment where you & your brothers can have the relationship and interaction that you do. That bond will only get stronger as you all grow up. Feeling comfortable with yourself and figuring out who "you" are should come from the home environment. The fact you have music as a common interest is also great because it brings you all closer together. And clearly David teaching you how to tie your own shoes is pivotal in your development! While I say that in jest, in all reality it is one of the first skills as a kid to be independent, not having to ask someone older to do something for you because you can now do it yourself. Teaching people concepts and skills is a key to leadership, when someone teaches you something you increase your level of respect for that person. So I leave you with this thought...is there any way you can be like David for someone in our class...?

My sister influenced the most of me by...
1)teaching me not to trust everybody I call my friend
2)always do my best and be as successful as possible
3)think twice before making a bad decision.im I going to regret it?

    1. Michael, you and I have something in common, appreciating the benefit of having and listening to your sister. The love you have for each other is obvious and a beautiful thing. You thoroughly enjoyed talking about her in this public speaking assignment. Her lessons are valuable: being selective in who you consider as a friend vice merely an acquaintance. Work as hard as you can will result in increased success. If you think you might be making a bad or risky decision, think twice about it. You have improved so much in your behaviour and attendance, now we have to work on Math. We can do this and following your sister's advice will help you get there. I am very proud of who you are becoming, Michael -keep it up.

My old principle was the most influential and inspirational person in my life.
1.) Taught me how important it is to always follow the rules and do what you're supposed to do even when others aren't watching.
2.) Taught me how important it is to have integrity and always live by certain moral principles.
3.) He taught me how important it is to give everyone respect and how far your education can take you.

    1. Brendan, it is a pretty mature self-observation as a younger student to realize that your Principal (the senior leader of the school) was the most inspirational and influential person in your life. He must be quite an individual merely based on the strength of your impromptu speech. Self discipline of doing the right thing because it is the right thing, the criticality of integrity and moral principles are your moral compass giving you the azimuth in daily navigation of life, and lastly respect for others and for the platform education can provide you is key. You are developing and growing as a leader, keep up the work ethic and focus on your goals. Perhaps, the most impressive for me in observing you this year is your development in communication and people skills coupled with the quiet confidence you have when you lead your peers. Good speech.

    1. Ann, I wish your Mom could have heard your heartfelt speech. As a parent and witness to your speech, your feeling for her and the impact she has had and continues to have was apparent. What a role model for you as a woman and future Mom yourself, and it is always impressive to see the impact even one person can make on our lives. Building an environment of trust in two-way communication, pushing the one you care about to work hard on goals and personal development, and then supporting them in the process through the ups and downs is what feeds your success due to your awesome Mom. Keep up the good work, remember you are a role model for the younger students in our class, so your words and actions have even deeper meaning. Keep it up!

    1. My mom always taught me to always do my best and fight for what I wanted and she always used to tell me that no one could bring me down, she said that people could try but it was up to me to let them do it.

    2. She is always their for me when I need her. She has been with me through thick and thin and she always gives the best advice. I can always count on her with whatever I need.

    1. Miss Huerta, your Mom has done a tremendous job with you because as you describe her influences on you, it is readily apparent in your words, actions, and performance. Not only has she influenced you, but the most satisfying thing for a parent is to see your son or daughter become a person of character who is respected for their attitude and performance. That is the "pay off" for a parent, so keep up the good work. I really am impressed with her focused on ethical perseverance and how that will guide your success. Your respectful demeanour and positive approach to others is why you are a successful peer leader, keep it up.

    2. He taught me the importance of doing what i love instead of doing what will make me more money because when You love your work then its not really work

    3. He always stresses the importance of taking responsibility for my own actions

    1. Zach, like you I have been fortunate to have a father that I looked up to as I was growing up and continue to value the impact he had on me to this day. The example in personal habits can't be under-rated, followers will often mimic the habits and attributes of their leaders. Following your passion and curiosity in the pursuit of professional goals when you have the youthful flexibility in your life (void of responsibilities: kids, mortgages, car payments, etc.) is sound advice. As a personal aside, I have never seen a father show up at as many parents meetings as him, it is often said in assessing leaders you can tell what is important to a leader based on where they spend their time... Keep it up, finish strong!!!

    1. Having a sibling in your life who you look up to is a fortunate thing. Having a brother like Elliot is important so I understand your point about brotherhood. Using the term "Military" doesn't mean you have to join the military but it does mean ensure you have a goal to be part of an organization that has value and standards...kind of like JROTC? Don't wait until the future to get it together, use JROTC to directly prep yourself for the military if that is your goal. What could you do know to be a better cadet that will make you more competitive for the military in the near future. Are you "playing" cadet or are you being the best cadet you can be right now? Excellence in all things is a habit, are you forming it as a student-cadet?

3.)He taught me to fight for what I believe in (non-violently)
4.)He showed me that words are powerful and important, language is the key to life and knowledge
5.)No matter what, you should never back down, but stand for what is right and what you believe in.

    1. Miss McClean, what an amazing role model, Martin Luther King, showed the impact one person can have to change an entire society. He used his intellect and self discipline to first lead himself, and then a nation. The fact that he accomplished all that he did for America during the tumultuous times that existed in a non-violent fashion is as amazing today as it was then. He also demonstrated that sacrifice needs to be made when trying to accomplish a great feat. The greatest test of a leader's success is how their organization or movement functions without their presence. Even though MLK was killed, his movement lived on and changed us all.

Like your parents said "work hard" because the key is to get the skills (reading, writing, thinking, planning, math, etc.) and job related qualifications (high school degree) so you can be successful in society and not have to rely on anyone else. The question you have to ask yourself is how hard are you following their advice and do you have enough time left in high school to achieve those goals...? You can do it, but you have to work...
